High-fat diets make us stupid and lazy?

Ripped that headline right from the FASEB Journal. Link to study here, link to article in NYT here.

Basically, according to the study, consuming fatty foods negatively rapidly affects your short-term memory and energy levels SIGNIFICANTLY.

The conclusion of the study is that "optimization of nutrition to maximize the efficiency of mitochondrial ATP production could improve energetics in athletes and patients with metabolic abnormalities."

Hey, DUDE!! You just gave me my physical science example for my first "scholarly database orientation" assignment of the semester (finding a popular article that reports the results of a study, and then finding the actual study)! What, are you psychic?

Plus, it follows perfectly my content guideline for example texts: something I want my students to know/think that I can subtly preach by showing them scholarship on...

Outstanding! Always glad to be useful!

The truth is-- more people, upon hearing news reports of scientific findings, should make it a point to do what you've done here: go find the study itself. Should be a habit.

Thank you. I just wouldn't feel right about hanging my name on something that I didn't actually verify myself. I didn't pay to download the actual report, but thankfully the scientists' specific findings were included in the summary for the report.

I went as far as to look up ATP production, and how I might improve that in my diet. You get into some very technical pages, but, from what I can understand, it is a process that many scientists are still researching.

The answer to all of it is grapefruit.
